🍃 Sproots is a colony survivial game where you control small Pikmin like creatures in a Sims-esque manner 🍃

🌊 Each 'sproot' is in constant need  of food and water. Their camp is always located near a 'life plant'  where they gather water, but you'll have to help them out getting food! 🌊

💀 Eventually every sproot will die of age (around 60), so be sure to let them breed new eggs on their nest! 🥚

🌟 During their lifetime they can study objects, learn skills, craft structures and items, and teach each other about their findings! 🌟

i love the game but the food goes down way to fast to get much of anything done  and item are consumed way to fast

the installer link isnt working for me, please help ): i really want to play it seems like a genuine well designed game

how exactly is it not working? are you downloading the windows or mac version? do you get the zip? maybe your security program blocks it?

Interested in trying this game out, but I only have a trackpad, so no mouse wheel and no way to choose and action if there are multiple options. Any way some other button(s) could be mapped to this? like maybe spacebar to toggle through list of options? Thanks!

Great game! I've always been fond of village games such as Virtual Villagers or Populous, so it's nice to have a more modern rendition of such titles. 

There are a few things that I wish was different, such as the autosave feature slowing down actions being performed, or the area around the villager bar on the bottom being unclickable. Other gameplay elements that I wasn't too fond of is the extremely slow nesting and in general, the slowness of everything in comparison to the lifespan of the Sproots -- which is both too long and too short at the same time... My play session spans only an hour, so the game feels too tedious or too quick depending on what's going on.

Overall though, it's a nice little game and I'm happy with the purchase! Looking forward to more!

Would love to play it but it isn't working on macos Catalina for me.
Needs to be updated to run.

I'm glad you pointed this out because I was about to purchase it. Guess I'll wait to see if they update it so it's Catalina-compatible.

updated it today!

The savebug is really severe. After i loaded my savegame, one item in a pot got copied 5 times or in other ones, removed at all - and the characterslots got doubled, so i had 4 slots with my 2 sproots. I also encountered a bug as my older sprout died and the game crashed (screenshot below). It really is a very nice gameconcept but extremely hard, as you have to huddle for everything. Also a pausebutton or similar would be nice.  


ah yeah i found the bug, it only seems to happen when you load a game after saving without closing the game in between, does that sound right to you?

More bugs, I was trying to make a scare man, but I was also cooking a simple meal and a mushroom together at the same time so it could be either. I think I've explored everything here. There needs to be more content or an end goal of some kind. Maybe a boss like in your other game krakens curse. That one is by far my favorite.

For anyone wanting to know a good strat, try the One Man Army stategy. 

Bum rush tier 1 research on clay and stick or thorn while exploring the surrounding area. You want to craft a spear (preferably 3 spears) to fight every mealybug to extinction. Once you have explored enough of the area to uncover all of the berry bushes and then some, start reproducing with your youngest sproot and just watch for incoming mealybugs. There are usually two large groups of mealies in every map. Prevent them from destroying any of your crops if possible. Losing 3 or 4 berry bushes is inevitable, but while they are munching on them, they are easy kills. After you have killed all the mealybugs, let your old die out and finish laying your egg. 

I forgot to mention that you should let your youngest sproot do all the hunting and research while the oldest does the exploring so hunting traits can carry over. Also your food supply now comes from all the berry bushes you saved.

Get as much clay as possible and just start spamming pots, I like to use a grid to organize everything. When your new one is born, start teaching him the ways of the stick and clay, DO NOT research anything other than these for now at least. Research does not carry over through generations, you would have to teach the new generation every time which can be tedious.

Once you have enough pots to satisfy your inventory needs, start exploring the entire map. This should take one generation to do. Always try to explore during or right before a rain storm. Start reproducing at age 40. This should give you leeway so by the time your old dies out, the new generation will have 1-3 inventory slots and will have been taught about the stick and the clay.

Now you are free to base build and gather all the materials you want. I would do research last since that is the most time consuming.

This game is too buggy to be playable. It mostly has to with save/load issues. Items will disappear from pots or transform into other ones on load. I lost my colony just now becuase my egg disappeared on load.  Sometimes my colony will duplicate itself and give me an extra sproot. The main challenge for this game is to fight all the bugs pun intended. Devs, please fix these so the players can progress forward.

  • It would be cool if the list of recipes somehow preserved, because to study the recipes every time again (after the death of the sprouts) - torture.
  • Sometimes there is a freeze for a second.
  • I had a bug that I couldn't reproduce: after creating a new game, I was left with empty character cells from the last game. As a result, the bottom screen had two empty cells and two filled cells (new characters). The game crashed with an error, so I learned that you work on GMS :)
  • The repetitive sound of the jug is also a problem.

I stumbled upon this, probably by some kind of twitter post, but I really enjoy this game!

I only found 2 very small bugs, those doesn't kill the game or something but yea : ) maybe it's good to report it or something. 

- when you want to put an item in a pot and the pot inventory opens, the sound plays rapidly. (quite a strong noise that makes : p)

- sometimes when there is a certain world event (maybe) the game freezes for a second. Not really a huge thing, but just wondering what's going on behind the scenes : p

I haven't played any of your other games yet, but I think I got my hands full on this one for a while!

Great game, but it has many bugs. Pots are very buggy. Chosing to put an item in an unselected pot causes the looping sound. Placing them next to eachother can cause items in the one below to become inaccessible. Also loading the game messes up the entire map. Starting the new game without exiting to desktop messes up the character list, producing empty slots, or "double" characters. I hope those bugs will be fixed soon. Also is there a way to make my characters act on their own? It becomes tidious to manage more than four at once

I agree on the bugs, but i think the idle A.I is on purpose: once one learns some skill they'll start doing things on their own if they're close enough to an interactable related to the profession (the geologist digs up by herself, the herbalist forages by herself, etc)

I also get the bug too in which the characters from old saves will be transferred over into new games. Empty slots make my game crash. I get the looping sound as well.

I coudn't find a 'report bugs here' tab/button, but I'm really enjoying the game so far. Problem with loading and starting a new game. My new game ater an already saved one gave me 2 sprooties in shortcuts 3 and 4 (instead of 1 and 2). After that, loading resulted in a 4 sprooties save file, the two pairs from each save version. Thanks!

How do you teach to the young ones?

select an item in the inventory and click it on a child (it will suggest teach about <item>) this only works if the teacher knows more about the item

how do you make new lifeplants? i see tons of their bases around but I cant find or study an item that will make a new lifeplant. ive found ( beds dumbells nests pots traps spears water backpacks and even simple food) ive also explored the map many times

my pc says I cant start this game either i dont have permissions or I can acess it on windows 10

I really like this game, but after I quit, I lose all my stuff in the clay pots despite saving and it crashes a few times. The grapics are really cool!

probably not. gamepad controls are generally quite easy to make for character controlling, but controlling UI usually requires a whole rework of the input code. 

i have no idea what local co-op in this game would like in detail

Heya, you can buy prepaid credit cards lots of places if it's just a question of not having a CC. Use that to buy it. Then you don't have  to worry about borrowing from your parents

Pretty addicting little game but I feel as though its missing an ability to queue up tasks, I really want to be able to just shift click a bunch of things for them to harvest and leave them to it rather than having to constantly check up on them to give them their next task.

Nice game, It would be cool if you  could add genetic inheritance for the different skin and flower colors. Maybe an option to breed two creatures together to get a new color variety? I see this game has alot of potential :D 

This game is a bit too hard for me (I suck at most games). I would really appreciate it if you could select different difficulties.

It'd be nice to have some other way to select an action than the mouse wheel - i.e. the space bar. On my laptop, it's unusable because the trackpad is too sensitive :(
